She was born January 6, 1925 in Beloit, WI, the daughter of Harry and Rose (Brgant) Demus. Dorothy was a 1943 graduate of Beloit High School. She married Arthur Larsen March 1, 1944. He predeceased her on January 22, 1992.
Dorothy owned the Demus Grill and the Travel Inn restaurants with her husband Art, continuing two of the many local restaurants started by her father in the 1920’s. In 1967 the Demus Grill was sold and they concentrated their efforts together at the Travel Inn on Broad Street in Beloit. She was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church. Dorothy was always busy making something; her hobbies include knitting, crocheting, sewing, and ceramics. She made hundreds of little hats for the preemies at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Dorothy enjoyed her time spent volunteering at Grinnell Senior Center, Beloit City Hall, and St. Paul Episcopal Church. She worked at the voting polls for many years. She and Art were very involved in the Phoenix Chapter #215 OES (Order of the Eastern Star) of Beloit. Until recent years, she was very involved in her grandchildren’s activities and was affectionately known as “Granny” to many more than her own grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Philip Allen officiating.
