John J. Meyer, who passed away on Tuesday, March 7th, and whose funeral was held Saturday, was born March 11, 1861, in [Schleswig-Holstein] Germany. He came to America in 1867, first locating in Scott County, IA, where on March 11, 1882, he was united in marriage to [Anna Dorothea] "Doris" Suehlsen. They continued to make their home in Scott county, in the vicinity of Davenport, Iowa, until 1891, when they moved to Rock county to engage in farming in Kanaranzi township. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer moved to Luverne in 1918.

Seven children where born to this union, four of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Minnie Jacobs, of Aurora, SD; Eldred of Hewitt, this state; William of Winthrop, this state; and Mrs. Caroline Friedrichsen of Moneta, Iowa. Mrs. Meyer passed away in July, 1832 and three children Isabel, Henry and John, Jr. preceded their parents in death. Besides the children, he is survived by 24 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
