Homer Wilson Walker, 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, surrounded by family.
Graveside Service: 3 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 2020, at China Spring Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Williams officiating.
Homer joined his beloved wife, Hazel Inez London, in Heaven after 12 years apart. They married on November 19, 1948, in Dallas, Texas.
He was born on September 21, 1925, in Malakoff, Texas as the oldest child of Noble J. and Willie Mae (Allen) Walker. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and fought in WWII in the European theater. He was a proud American and shared many memories of his time in the military. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946.
After serving his country, Homer owned his own tire shop and later worked as a tire salesman at Sears in Dallas. After retiring from Sears, he owned a drive-in grocery store. In 1998, he and Hazel moved to China Spring where Homer was well known for working the concessions at the Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo for Joe Stewart Concessions.
His career gave him numerous opportunities to make many friends, memories, and add comical stories to his book. Homer’s work ethic shaped him from the time he was four years old and carried him until he retired at the age of 89.
Of all his accomplishments and the many relationships he built over the years, Homer was most proud of his four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He and Hazel raised four children who each hold special memories of Homer that usually entail good conversations and a whole lot of humor. In particular, their time spent on Cedar Creek Lake as a family stands out for everyone.
His memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren include time spent watching various sporting events, cutting horse shows, exchanging lottery tickets, telling stories, and creating the most spectacular Candyland Christmas light display for all to enjoy.
Homer was loved by many and was sure to have a story to tell anyone he talked to. He leaves a legacy of laughter and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel Inez Walker, and siblings, Margaret Jones, Hazel Mayton, and John Walker.
Survivors include his children, Vickie Hubacek and husband Anthony, Gary Walker and wife Mary, Jim Walker and wife Christie, and Sheila Stewart and Glenn Thomas; grandchildren, Jamie Hubacek and wife Denice, Tennessee Walker, and wife Lauren, Shannon Cathey and husband Larry, Jr., Jordan Walker and Baron Bartels, Lauren Lindsey and husband Justus, and Jacob Stewart; great-grandchildren, Jake Hubacek and wife Marisa, Lane Cathey, Marlee Cathey, Renner Walker, Cooper Walker and Collins Walker; siblings, Loy Tanton, and Weldon Walker and wife Joan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
