Mrs. Patrick Bodkin died at the Johnson hospital in Chanute, September 8, 1927, following an abdominal operation. Mr. and Mrs. Bodkin were residents of near Blaine for many years, and moved to a farm near Cherryvale eighteen years ago, and later moved to that city.
Mrs. Katherine [Cathern] Murray-Bodkin was born in Canada, December 15, 1855. She was married to Patrick Bodkin at Scranton, Pennsylvania, April 5, 1874, and four years after their marriage, moved to near Blaine, Kansas. Mrs. Bodkin was the mother of fifteen children, eleven of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Jack Busby and Miss Celia Bodkin, Cherryvale; Mrs. Charles Schaubel [Schabel], Neodesha; Miss Gail Bodkin, Coffeyville; Mrs. Katherine Hinsen [Cathern Hinson], Kansas City; Mrs. Margaret Johnson, Tonkawa, Oklahoma; Mrs. Winifred Prebble, Salt Lake City, Utah; Ansel [Anselm] Bodkin, Seminole, Oklahoma; James Bodkin, Portland, Ore.; Joseph Bodkin, Tulsa, Okla.; Richard Bodkin, Salt Lake City, Utah. Also eleven grandchildren and two brothers, Owen Murray, Scranton, Pa., and John Murray of New York City, survive.
One brother, Patrick Murray, Scranton, Pa., who visited here three years ago, is deceased. Four sons deceased are: John, Thomas, Peter and Michael.
Mrs. Bodkin with her husband celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last April. Mrs. Bodkin was a fine Christian woman and a splendid neighbor. Funeral services were held at the Saint Xavier Catholic church in Cherryvale, September 10, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Father Walsh. The body was brought by the bereaved husband, children and others to Blaine, where it was buried in St. Columbkill's [Mount Calvary Catholic] cemetery beside the deceased sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bodkin.
