Diane Marie Hatt died in Tucson, Arizona, on March 13, 2017 after a seven-year battle with cancer. It was a long, hard battle she was determined to fight. She so loved life and being near her children and grandchildren. She was the eldest, born March 1, 1949, in Key West, Florida, to Anselmo "Tata" Rendueles and Mary Camille Woods, a true Conch.
Diane was a graduate of Key West High School and Baptist College at Charleston, South Carolina, with a nursing degree. She was an RN for many years practicing in Florida, South Carolina and Arizona, finally retiring from nursing in 2006. She was a member of the American Legion and Thunder Mountain Moose Lodge No. 2475, where she worked as a cook for a time after her retirement from nursing.
At the age of 13, Diane met a neighborhood boy, Dennis Hatt, while singing in the choir at the First Congregation Church on William Street. He turned out to be the love of her life. They were married in Miami on Jan. 27, 1967, and had two children, Alisa Denise, aka "Whopper" and Michael Dennis, aka "Hamburger", both born in Key West but now living in Tucson. Diane was preceded in death by Dennis on Dec. 19, 1998, and her parents. She leaves behind her daughter Alisa (Jimmy) Jones, son Michael (Maya) Hatt, grandchildren Matthew Thomas (Melissa) Hatt, Ciara Shae Hatt, Sydney, Samara, and Cash Schacht, sisters Donna Jean Robinson, Ormond Beach, Florida, Deborah Ann Smith, Bunnell, Florida, fiancé, Pedro G. Juarez and his children Patricia and Gilbert Juarez, nieces Rachel Lee Smith, Kimberly Ann (Al) Silverberg, nephews Patrick Amos Upchurch, M.D., Charles Steven "Bubba" (Sara) Gomez, Jr., Barry Wallace (Dorie) Robinson, Jr., and many cousins and friends.
We will always remember Diane's love of life and the simple things, which she knew were the important things, her love of grilling and cooking delicious food, especially Cuban food, black beans, yellow rice and picadillo, and gardening in her backyard jungle. She had a wonderful sense of humor and knew how to make you laugh. We will miss all these things and more.
