US Congresswoman. Her political career started shortly after the death of her husband, Frank Reid Jr., who won the GOP primary in 1962 for the 15th Congressional District Illinois. She was selected by precinct committeemen in the district to replace her husband on the ticket and went out campaigning. In 1963, she was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-eighth and to the four succeeding Congresses serving until 1971. From 1971 to 1976, she was member of the Federal Communications Commission and a member of the President's Task Force on International Private Enterprise, 1983 to 1985. She was the only woman on the FCC during that time and while in Congress she was one of only 12 women in the House. She served Presidents John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. From 1984 to 1988, she served on the Board of Governors of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Educated in music, she also was a featured vocalist with the NBC Radio show, Don McNeil's Breakfast Club, appearing under the professional name of Annette King.
