Harold M. Rand, 77, prominent for many years in Fitchburg business and bowling circles, died Wednesday in Burbank Hospital after a long illness. The husband of the late Irene V.(Jerome) Rand, he was born in South Reading, VT., May 23, 1893, the son of George F. and Addie (Barbour) Rand.

He moved to Fitchburg 52 years ago and was employed as a teamster at Silas Pierce Co. and Crocker Burbank Paper Mill.

For many years he operated Rand's Limousine Service and Rand's Radio Shop. During World War II he was employed in defense work at Simonds Saw and Steel Co. at which time he also operated the former Elm Street Bowling Alleys.

For the past 15 years, Mr. Rand had made his home in South Lyndeboro N.H.

He leaves two sons. Dwight F. Rand of Lunenburg and Jerome R. Rand of Fitchburg; a brother Edward A. Rand of Leominster; a granddaughter Mrs. Frank Pajari of Lunenburg and two great-grandchildren, Christine and David Pajari. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the Bosk Funeral Home. Rev. Edward Neuhaus will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours are from 7 to 8:30 tonight.
