Ellis Hall, affectionately known as Sweet, of Okeechobee, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2014. He was 73. A Florida native, Ellis was born on April 20, 1941 in Pahokee to Perry and Velma Hall. He is survived by [omitted for privacy]. He is predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Jim Wyatt, sister-in-law Gale Hall and nephew John Wyatt. He was a hard-working, passionate fixer of things, an electrician by trade, and our own MacGyver who boasted that he could fix anything but a broken heart and the crack of dawn. He was a consummate whistler. He had a tune that meant Come Home and Eat; I'm full; and I'm bored. He loved to play; he would race kids running backwards, and he never let a child win out of pity. If you beat Sweet, you earned it. Ellis was a charming, easy-going, calm-natured guy and a good story-teller who liked to laugh. He spoke few words but always meant each one. He loved entertaining in his home and riding in his truck with his dogs. Although he was short in stature, his wife thought he was the tallest man in the room. He loved the outdoors, especially the Glades, but his heart's desire was always to go West and go native like Jeremiah Johnson. We imagine him now on a mountain in a snow-covered log cabin poking the fire and drinking a beer, a dog curled up by his feet. The viewing will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Canal Point Baptist Church in Canal Point. A second viewing will be held at 9:00AM, Saturday, October 11th. Services to begin at 10:00AM, followed by graveside burial in Port Mayaca, then the community is invited for lunch afterward at Canal Point Baptist. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation payable to either Canal Point Baptist Church or Alzheimer's Association to P.O. Box 575, Okeechobee, FL 34973.
