Ruth Alford Hicks, 91, passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at her home. She was born January 15, 1926 in Wake County to the late Johnnie Burdell Alford and Mattie Perry Alford. In 1944 she graduated from Rolesville High School. For 19 ½ years Ruth was a Ward Secretary at Rex Hospital. After retirement, Ruth was a caregiver in the home for numerous families.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Beulah Christian Baptist Church, 8225 Mitchell Mill Rd., Zebulon, 27597. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive relatives and friends 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service & Crematory, 944 Old Knight Rd., Knightdale, 27545 and other times at the home of Dennis & Janice Hicks.
Surviving: son, Dennis Hicks (Janice) of Zebulon; grandsons: Kevin Hicks, Keith Hicks (Angela); great-grandchildren: Amirah and Adeline; sister, Sylvia Bolton (Billy) of Raleigh; brother, Howard Alford (Josephine) of Zebulon; a host of special nieces, nephews and close friends.
In addition to her parents Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hicks on January 12, 1981; son, Russell Hicks; sisters: Ada Woodlief, Mavis Johnson, Christine Alford; brother, Jessie B. Alford.
Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Beulah Christian Baptist Church.
