OBITUARY :
HAZEL S. (BLUBAUGH) STOOPS, 98, of 9350 Tomstown Road, Waynesboro, died at 5:13 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2000, in Waynesboro Hospital following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 4, 1902, in Quincy Township, she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Elizabeth (Cole) Blubaugh. She lived all her life in Quincy Township.

Mrs. Stoops attended Quincy Township schools.

She and her husband, Bishop Harvey G. Stoops, were married March 26, 1921, in Hagerstown. Bishop Stoops died July 4, 1983. Mrs. Stoops had lived at the present residence since 1984.

Mrs. Stoops was a homemaker and mother. She worked for a number of years a seamstress at Waynesboro Knitting Co. and also did seasonal work for Knouse Foods.

She was a member of Fairview Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was a member of the choir and Relief Society.

She and her husband were ordinance workers at the Washington, D.C., temple for eight years.

Mrs. Stoops loved to make afghans and crochet.

She is survived by four daughters, Lucille Avey of Tomstown, Audrey Waltz of Smithsburg, Carol Ann Sherwood of Wellsboro and Susan Biesecker of Waynesboro, two sons, S. L. "Ted" Stoops of Waynesboro and Ronald Stoops of Gaithersburg, Md., 20 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Janet Holtz of Wynnewood, two brothers, Charles Blubaugh of Waynesboro and Warren Blubaugh of Fountaindale, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Stoops was preceded in death by a grandson, Terry Avey in 1993, one sister; and eight brothers.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 11887 Mentzer Gap Road, Waynesboro, with Bishop Gary A. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, and one hour prior to the services Tuesday in the church.
