FORMER SCHOOL TEACHER DIES

Christine Hummelbaugh Found Dead in Garage At Mercersburg Home

Miss Anna Christine Hummelbaugh, aged 43 years, a former teacher in the Waynesboro Public schools, was found dead in a gas-filled garage at her home in Mercersburg, early Sunday morning.

A beautiful and well written letter left on a table for her mother indicated that she had intended to end her life. Her death was thought to have occurred about 3 o'clock Sunday morning and the body was not found until several hours later, Coroner S. D. Shull said.

The body was removed to the Lininger funeral home in Mercersburg.

Coroner Shull said there will be no inquest.

Miss Hummelbaugh had been in ill health for some years. She was a graduate of Shippensburg State Normal School in 1921 and taught in the Waynesboro Public schools from 1921 to 1935, when she was given a leave of absence because of ill health. The following year she resigned.

She was a member of St. Johns's Lutheran Church, Mercersburg.

Surviving is her mother, Mrs. Anna R. Hummelbaugh, Mercersburg.

Pvt. funeral services will be held from the Lininger funeral chapel, Mercersburg, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Herbert W. strop. Internment will be made in Fairview cemetery, Mercersburg.
