DENISON - Shirley Mae McSorley Myers departed this life in Denison, Texas at the age of 58 on January 9, 2017 after complications from pneumonia.Shirley was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin on August 8, 1958 to Jerome Dean Patrick McSorley and Betty June Kennedy McSorley. Her parents served as missionaries in Mexico and other than living a short time in Monterrey, she spent her childhood years in Zapata, Texas where she graduated from High School in 1976.After graduating Shirley moved to Sherman where she met her husband Kenneth Myers. Married in 1977, they moved to San Antonio to attend Bible College, then pastored first in Zapata, then in Forest, Wisconsin, and finally back in Sherman. For the last twenty years she worked as the office manager for Mexico Ministries based in Denison.Shirley loved travel, cooking, acting, poetry, music, and was an accomplished songwriter, with many of her songs being sung in church services around the world. She was proud of her Irish heritage and had the perfect Irish sense of humor which instantly made people love being around her. She was noted for her care for others, her selfless devotion to her friends and her family, and her amazing ability to provide a place of refuge and peace when people needed it.More than anything else, Shirley loved, and will be remembered for, being a joyful wife to her husband, a loving mother to her children, and perhaps most significantly, an outrageously wonderful grandmother to her five grandchildren.Shirley is preceded in death by her father and mother, Jerry and Betty McSorley of Zapata, TX. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Myers, daughter Stormie Myers of Denison, son Ken Myers and his wife Megan of Arlington, son Jay Myers and his wife Sarah of Wimberley, and by the crown jewels of her life, her five grandchildren, Ken III, Elijah, Lawrence (Pete), Nora, and Caroline. She is also survived by five sisters and one brother, and many nieces and nephews.The funeral service for Shirley will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 21, at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 427 W. Woodard in Denison.
