Charles Ray Roberts, 77, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, at Wesley Woods Alzheimer Care Center in Waco. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, jan. 18, at China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room.

Ray was born in Gatesville, Texas, to the late Ben and Minnie Roberts. He played football for the Gatesville Hornets where he earned the nickname "Burr Head" playing with former Baylor football coach Cotton Davidson. Ray switched sports to fast pitch softball where he pitched for many years with various pro softball teams. In the mid 60's Ray moved to Waco and opened the Top Cat Lounge. In 1969, Ray began managing the Showtime Club which operated under his guidance until his death. We will always remember Ray Roberts as a man that would give you the shirt off his back plus money to buy you a new one on your way home. He will be greatly missed by all his friends and family and everyone who knew him. SET ONE - We love you Ray.

Ray was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Pollard, Mildred Duncan and N.M. Nail; and brother, Sherwood Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Mrylene Roberts, of Chalk Bluff; sons, Keith Roberts, of Hewitt and Randy R. Roberts and wife, Teri, of Robinson; step-son, Jackie McDow, of Chalk Bluff; step-daughter, Nancy Bledsoe, of Stephenville; grandchildren, April Roberts, Randy Roberts Jr., Ashley Roberts, Joey Brooks, Tiffany Daughtry and Nicole McDow; four great-grandchildren; brother, Ben Roberts Jr. and wife, Ruth, of China Spring; other family members; and many friends.
