After a voyage of eighty-three years, seven months and eighteen days another fragile barque has been borne from the river of time into the peaceful sea of eternity.
On the ninth day of October in the year 1841, in Quebec, Canada, Herbert Lee Ives was born and on the 26th day of June, 1923, at 12:15 a.m., he very quietly passed into the realm of the invisible.
At the age of nineteen years he came to the United States where he has since resided.
When only a lad of thirteen summers he was converted and united with the Methodist Church, in which organization he has remained for seventy years.
His marriage to Susanan Butterworth was solemnized March 20, 1867. Into this home eight children were born, four sons and four daughters.
Of this number four died in infancy and four are still living: Mrs. Ed Hockensmith of near Radium, Mrs. Adelle Kelly of Great Bend, Ezra Allen Ives of Danbury, Iowa, and Herbert Lee Ives of Eldorado, Kansas.
About eight years ago Mr. Ives was injured in an automobile accident, from which he never recovered. Two weeks prior to his death he fell while preparing to retire for the night, and never walked afterwards.
He was a man of strong constitution, good character and a firm believer in the Word of God as the only sufficient guide for the human family. With those who knew him best, no doubt is entertained concerning his future being one of blessedness.
Funeral services were conducted in Radium June 27th and the body placed in the cemetery at Ellinwood, Kansas.
