Rosary services for John Doebber, Sr., were held Friday, Dec. 2, 1960, at 9 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 3, 1960, at 10 a.m. from the Sacred Heart church at Urbank, Rev. T. G. Lentfoehr officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery. The honorary pallbearers were Nick Thoennes, John V. Thoennes, John Thoennes, C. H. Revering, Joe Suchy, and Frank Theusch. the active pallbearers were George Roers, Henry Botzet, Lawrence Thoennes, Herbert Thoennes, Alyois Faber, and Herman Grothen.
Joh Doebber was born on March 14, 1877, at Shakopee, Minn., the son of John and Anna Doebber. When he was six years of age the Doebber family came to the Urbank community where John was a resident for over sixty years. On Nov. 11, 1908, he was united in marriage to Isabelle Benzinger at the Sacred Heart church in Urbank. Mr. Doebber operated a farm southeast of Urbank until 1947 when he retired and for the past 13 years has been a resident of Alexandria.
Mr. Doebber passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 1960, at Our Lady of Mercy hospital at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 16 days. Surviving him are five sons and two daughters: Gebhart of Bismarck, N.D., George, Vincent, and Leo of Alexandria, John of Urbank, Marie (Mrs. Michael Lanigan) of Alexandria and Sister Patricia of Freeport, Ill. Also surviving are one sister, Regina Doebber of Alexandria, and 19 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 2, 1925, one sister and one brother.
