A pall of gloom fell over the scholastic ranks of Brooklyn when it became known today that Lt. Morty Alnwick, a bombadier navigator, was one of the crew of ten that met death in an Army bomber crash in Florida the other day. It
meant that another gentleman and splended athlete met a hero's death. Morty gave the Army everything he had, the same as he had done while sporting the silks of Bishop Loughlin Memorial High and Georgetown University in track as a middle-distance runner. The fine training Morty received at the two institutions served him in good stead. Morty's greatest year at Loughlin was in 1938 when he captured every title in sight and went through the campaign undefeated as a quarter-miler. Morty is a credit to his family, proved a sportsman and had the respect of all competitors. Besides his wife, Agatha, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Alnwick, Morty is survived by two brothers, Lt. Gerard Alnwick, now serving in the Pacific and Robert.
