Robert W. "Bill" Aarup, age 88, of Quincy, died on Friday, December 2, 2016 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on February 10, 1928 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of George and Alice I. Cheffy Aarup. Bill married Dolora Lou "Dolly" Pendleton on March 13, 1960, in Springfield, Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2007.

Bill served in the United States Army in Vietnam from 1968-1969, and was a shop foreman for the Illinois Army National Guard Unit in Quincy. He was a member of the Illinois Army National Guard for over 40 years. Bill was a member of American Legion Post #37, and served on the Honor Guard.

Bill was a member of the Lutheran Church of St. John and the church's Men's Club. He served as a zone and district officer of the Lutheran Laymen's League.

Survivors include a daughter, Alicia (Jeffrey) Shipley of Dublin, OH; four grandchildren, Steven (Heather) O'Hearn and Jennifer Aarup, both of Quincy, Justin and Drew Shipley, both of Dublin, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Dolly, he was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Jan Aarup, and a sister, Betty Kreis.

Services: Tuesday (December 13, 2016) at 10:00 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of St. John.

Burial: Old Berlin Cemetery, Berlin, Illinois

Visitation: Monday (December 12, 2016) from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, Quincy, IL.
