SP4 Charles Ray Cranford, Vietnam Veteran, Native of King, North Carolina.

SP4 Charles Ray Cranford was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, SP4 Cranford served our country until June 7th, 1970 in Tay Ninh, South Vietnam. He was 27 years old and was not married. It was reported that Charles died when the vehicle he was riding in came under enemy rocket attack. His body was recovered. SP4 Cranford is on panel 09W, line 023 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He had served in the Military for 8 years.

SP4 Charles Ray Cranford had served 8 years in the Army and was nearing completion of his third tour of duty in Vietnam. Previously he had served in Germany and Hawaii, and as an instructor in mechanics in Aberdeen, Md. where he received basic training.

They were Truck Drivers, MOS-63C20. Two men from Charlie Company, 725th Maintenance Battalion, were killed by a mine on 07 June 1970, SP5 Francis P. Valdez and SP4 Charles R. He was the son of Mr Charles Harris and Mrs Ruby Jane Cranford. He attended King High School and received his diploma from the U.S.Army

He served with Charlie Company, 725th Maintenance Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal, The Army Commendation Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal and The Good Conduct Medal.
