Son of Conrad Alig and Anna Maria Kuhn. George Jacob Alig and his twin, Anna Maria Alig, were baptized at Lourdes parish in Woodford County, IL, in March 1883.

Funeral services for George Alig, Sr., 78, were held Monday morning in Sacred Heart Catholic church, with the Rev. Fr. Edward Fandel of Rockwell City, celebrant of the requiem Mass. Mass servers were three grandsons, George Slattery of Laurens, Dale and Darrel Albrecht of Clare. Pallbearers were grandsons, Norbert Alig of Gilmore City, Gerald Alig of Davenport, John Alig of Fonda, James Slattery of Laurens, Leo Francis of Palmer and Thomas Albrecht of Clare. Honorary pallbearers were Catholic Order of Forrester members, Chas. Schott, Albert Drobney, M.H. Hammes, S. Ries, Dr. J.J. Ryan, and Geo. Milefchik. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

A son of Conrad and Mary Alig, George was born Mar. 10, 1883, at Metamora, Ill., and was married Oct. 10, 1905, at Metamora to Louise Rudolph of Peoria, Ill. They farmed near Metamora for three years, then came to Pomeroy in 1909, where they farmed for six years, before moving to a farm near Pocahontas, where they lived until retiring in 1945 and moving into town. Mrs. Alig died Jan. 20, 1945. For the past three years Mr. Alig had resided at the Good Samaritan Home here, where he died quite suddenly Thursday evening of a stroke.

He was a member of Sacred Heart parish and the Men’s Catholic Order of Forresters.

Surviving are ten children, Mrs. Francis (Isabel) Slattery of Laurens, Mrs. Donald (Eldora) Francis and Maurice Alig of Palmer, Mrs. Ed (Berniece) Albrecht of Clare, Mrs. Harold (Arville) Porath of Waubay, S.D., Mrs. Al (Luella) Vodraska, Clem and Edward Alig of Pocahontas, Wilbur Alig of Gilmore City and Geo. Alig, Jr. of Fonda. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one brother, Conrad Alig of Whittemore. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Norbert, who died at the age of 17 in 1929, and twelve sisters and brothers.

Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Peoria, Metamora, Mossville, Lacon, Peru and Pekin, Ill.; Minneapolis, Fairmont and Trimont, Minn.; Davenport, Ottumwa, Ft. Dodge, Mason City, Estherville, Remsen, Kanawha, Storm Lake, Des Moines, Montgomery, Spencer, Pisgah, Ottosen, Whittemore, Clare, and surrounding towns.
