Ed was the only child of John Peter and Lola Faye (Faris) Abramson. He was an excellent musician. While playing trombone in the Roosevelt High School band, he was also the student assistant to the band director. He also played piano in his own dance band. He could play classical, jazz and swing. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa and graduated with a Civil Engineering degree. Since it was war time, he joined the Navy as a Seabee. When he graduated from college, he did a short tour on the destroyer, USS Foss, until the end of WW II. On 8 Feb 1947, he married Ethel JoAnn Longsdorff at Collegiate Methodist Church in Ames, Iowa. Together, he and JoAnn had 5 children: Cathy Anne (married Frederick Clifton Hollendorfer, then Steve Auble), Karen Marie (married Scott Wade Purdin, then Steve Max Kenrick), Marc Edward (married Mary Elizabeth Wilcox, then Regina Elaine Weil, and finally Marla Sigman), Joel David (married Karen Teresa Rosenkrantz), and Eric Paul Abramson. Ed worked for John P. Abramson Construction, his father's construction company. When his father passed away, he became President of the company. They did jobs for the Burlington Railroad, and for the Federal government, building the Interstate highway system in Iowa, especially along I-80. His specialty was interchanges.
