Rob was born in Pottsville, PA on February 27, 1959; the son of Lt. Col (Ret) USAF Pete and Betty Uller Watcher. After graduating from Sumter High School in 1977, Rob earned a business degree from the University of South Carolina. He was an enthusiastic Gamecock fan and saw their most recent win over Tennessee shortly before his death.
Rob was a talented pianist, an avid reader, a skilled golfer and an incredible fisherman.
He loved being outdoors, in the swamp, and on the river or lake whenever possible. Those of us who knew and loved him will always remember and share stories of Rob's many escapades. He loved animals and frequently "rescued" pets, even once capturing ( and later returning to the swamp) a live alligator to present to his surprised future brother-in-law visiting the family from New York City. There were other stories of being lost in the swamp or confronted by some dangerous animal or snake. Then there were stories of the rigors of his time in boot camp at Parris Island where he successfully completed US Marine Corps Recruit training. After serving in the Marine Corps, Rob obtained his Merchant Marine Credentials and worked for many years on oil rigs off the coast of Louisiana.
He was predeceased by a brother, Tony Michael Watcher, in 2005.
