Funeral services for the Rev. Burus Thornton, 67, of 1517 Peabody, were held today at the Second Baptist Church with Dr. Warren Walker and Dr. Allen Webb officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park. Thornton, a Baptist minister for more than 44 years died at his home yesterday.
He held pastorates and did missionary work in many Texas cities. In this area he was pastor at North Beach, Tivoli, Ingleside, and Odem. He came to Corpus Christi in 1942 from Falfurrias. He had been in retirement for three years.
Survivors are his wife, Maude; a daughter, Mrs. Atrelle Smith of Corpus Christi; two sons, Dwain of Corpus Christi, and Odell of San Diego; three brothers, C. C. [Clayton] of Slaton, D. D. [Dee D.] of Mexia, and C. T. [Cleburn "Cley"] of Rusk, and two granddaughters. Cage-Mills Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
