Mrs. Betty Blevins Wilson, age 83, of Marion, passed away at The McDowell Hospital on Friday, October 21, 2016 following a period of declining health.

Betty was born on August 16, 1933 in Yancey County to the late Samuel and Elizabeth Fox Blevins. She was an accomplished seamstress and many people benefitted from her expertise at sewing but her true love was raising her daylilies. Her daylilies are undoubtedly growing all over western North Carolina because she was so well known and sought out for the many varieties she cultivated. A strong prayer warrior, she lived her faith in her every day walk of life and the Holy scripture in Proverbs 31 describes her perfectly as “a virtuous woman”. She most recently attended Going Home Baptist Church. Those who knew her were blessed by her friendship and will miss her very much. Her husband of 55 years, Charles Ray Wilson, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her two children, Cathy Wilson and Darrell Wilson and wife Shaina, all of Marion; two brothers, Harold Blevins and wife Mary Ruth and Earl Blevins and wife GeneVee, all of Burnsville; a grandson, Greg Beaver and wife Tracy of Old Fort; a great-granddaughter, Ayrn Michelle; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be available to receive friends on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. A service to celebrate her life and home-going will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Rev. Bruce Ward officiating. Burial will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
