Rubye Inez Barnes went to be with our Lord Oct. 15, 2016. She was born on Aug. 9, 1925 in Steele from parents Carlie and Eliza Pritchart. Ruby had five sisters. One surviving sister is Betty Donahue of Little Rock, Ark. Rubye married Chester A. Barnes on March 8, 1947 in Texas where Chester was attending college at Texas A&M. Chester had recently returned from serving his country during WWII as a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corp.
The newlyweds settled back in Steele, where Chester began a career working as a bulk plan agent for the Standard Oil Company. Rubye became Chester's partner in his business and was a full time mom. Rubye and Chester also became long time members of the Steele Church of Christ, and later Rubye became a member of the Slicer Street Church of Christ in Kennett. Chester pre-deceased Rubye in September, 2011.
Rubye and Chester leave a wonderful legacy of descendants with more to come. Their four children are Bradley Barnes and wife, Pamela, of Apache Junction, Ariz., who have three children and eight grandchildren; Janice Curry and husband, Joe, of Campbell, who have three children and six grandchildren; Luana Loomis and husband, Peter, of Albuquerque, N.M., who have five children and seven grandchildren; and Laurie Gibbons and husband, Neal, of Kennett, who have two children and four grandchildren.
During her life, Rubye devoted herself to her husband and children, and after the kids left one and her husband retired, they enjoyed many years of RV traveling to visit friends and their children who lived in Arizona and New Mexico. Rubye always loved singing as evidenced by her involvement in a women's singing group in her earlier years and her love of music at their church. She also enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and sewing.
Rubye faced each day ready to greet the world, never without her immaculate taste in makeup, clothes and jewelry. Even after she became unable to dress herself, she was never without her signature red lipstick.
Those who knew Rubye will always remember her real beauty and charm, inside and out.
