She was the daughter of Josef and Hedwig Scholz Hannig who immigrated from Germany in 1922 and came to Auburn to live. They had married in Germany on April 12, 1912.

Walter Hannig born 1917 in Germany. He was killed in action in Germany on March 4, 1945 serving with the U.S.Army in WWll. He lived with his parents in Auburn until he married Ruth Marguerite Bahr in Syracuse on August 24, 1940. He left his widow, Ruth Bahr Hannig, born on January 3, 1922 in Syracuse to George Bahr and Marguerite Schmick Bahr. Ruth died on December 29, 1989 in Syracuse. Walter also was survived by his small twin boys, Walter and David Hannig.
