Mrs. Heckendorn was the only daughter of Thomas and Margaret (Reiber) Kennedy and was born July 10, 1826, and died August 25, 1909 at the age of 83 years, 1 month and 15 days. For many years many years she was a consistant member of the Reformed Church, having been confirmed by Rev. C.H. Linbach and was by him united in marriage with the late William P. Heckendorn, November 8, 1835. To this union seven children were born, one dying in infancy. Those surviving are; Mary S. (Mrs. Scott Irvin) of Sandy Hill; Thomas N. Heckendorn, of Warble, Juniata County; E. Scott, of Duncannon; Charles H., of Newville, Cumberland County,; David K, of Spring Township; and J. William, of Centre Township. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and one brother, Thomas Kennedy, of Tyrone Township. The early years of her life were spent at Loysville. Later for nearly forty years, she lived at Alinda. Since the death of her husband, nearly forty years ago, she has made her home with her daughter, excepting one year when she was with her son at Centre. She was a kind and faithful wife and mother, and all though her pathway through life was dotted with trials, both sad and severe, she was ever ready to go to her neighbors with a helping hand and a sympathyzing heart in time of need.
Her ramains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in Mt. Zion graveyard, Saturday, August 28th by Rev. Leinbach officiating. She has realized her last and only desire, "to be at rest."
