Tarlton Callam Bailey was a veteran of the War of 1812, and served as a Sergeant in Capt. William Woods' Light Infantry Regiment (also known as "Yancey's Regiment") of the Virginia Militia.

Tarlton Bailey enlisted on July 27, 1814, and was later discharged on Dec 10, 1814, at Camp Holly Springs, Virginia. Some years later, he applied for, and was granted, 80 acres of bounty land.

His first wife was Malinda Wheeler. She was born circa 1799 in Albemarle County, Virginia and died circa 1838 in Lee County, Virginia. They had four children.

Tarlton married his second wife, Elizabeth Hudson, on April 18, 1841 in Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tennessee. They had twelve children. After Tarlton's death, Elizabeth applied for a widow's pension. She was awarded a pension of $8.00 a month, which was later raised to $12.00, According to Find A Grave, Elizabeth died on 1 Jan 1894 in Kingfisher County Oklahoma. She was buried in the Hope Cemetery in Kingfisher County. It further states that her grave was marked with a wooden cross. A memorial stone for Elizabeth was placed in the Hennessey Cemetery next to her son's (George Bailey) grave.
