Clarence E. McCann, 95, of Abingdon, Va. and formerly of Tazewell, Va., passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at his home. He was born June 29, 1921, a son of the late Edgar and Cara McCann. Clarence retired from Kerr-McGee where he mined uranium in New Mexico. He belonged to many organizations including the United Mine Workers of America, VFW Post 1994, the American Legion Washington County Post 12, and the DAV James E. Peters Chapter 57.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Raymond, Bob, and Bill McCann; four sisters, Bertha Anders, Nancy Price, Margaret Brooks, and Ethel McCann; and a step-daughter, Sandra White.

Clarence was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Loretta Frazier McCann; three sons: Tom McCann of Glade Spring, Va.; Larry McCann of Damascus, Va.; and Steve McCann of Bristol, Va.; two daughters, Imogene Price of Orlando, Fla. and Nancy Gibson and husband William of Abingdon; three step-daughters: Linda Greer and husband Carl of Abingdon; Cynthia Norris and husband Burl of Harrisonburg, Va.; and Patricia Grindstaff and husband Mark of Bristol, Tenn.; and several grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service, 19415 Lee Highway, Abingdon, Va. A funeral ceremony will follow at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Forest Hills Chapel with Minister Tom Crise officiating. Interment will be held in Forest Hills Memory Gardens where Derek Holmes, Dwight Sullins, Paul Phillips, Charlie Sheets II, William Gibson, and Carl Greer will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tenn. 38148-0142.
