EUNICE BECHTEL LAID TO REST AT ELGIN

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 7, for Mrs. Eunice Bechtel at the Church of the Nazarene at Elgin.
She died Sunday at the age of 76 at the St. Joseph Hospital in La Grande where she had been a patient for three days. For a number of years she has lived in Wallowa at the homes of her daughters, Mrs. Jay Johnson and Mrs. Charles Johnson.
She is survived by three sons, Clarence, Roy, and Cecil Bechtel of La Grande; three daughters, Mrs. Jay Johnson and Mrs. Charles Johnson of Wallowa, and Mrs. Harold Scoubes of Klamath Falls; two brothers, Clarence Witty of Elgin and Sam Witty of Modesto, Calif., and a sister, Mrs. J.E. Witherspoon of Elgin.
Other relatives who reside in Wallowa or are former Wallowa residents are Mrs. Raymond Cowan, a niece; and grandchildren, Wayne and Wade Johnson, Mrs. Hubert Crow, Carolyn Johnson, Mrs. Ronnie McArtor of Lostine, Mrs. Bruce Moffit of Portland, Donna Johnson of Concord, Calif., Mrs. Dick Turley of La Grande, and Dallas Johnson of Lake Oswego.
Mrs. Bechtel was born at Marysville, Ky., in 1885, the daughter of William and Vergie Witty. She was married in Elgin on December 23, 1907 to Homer Bechtel who preceded her in death 17 years ago. They lived in Wallowa County for about 25 years.
Rev. Danny Pyles of La Grande, assisted by Ellis McRoberts of Wallowa officiated at the service. Two hynms, "Rock of Ages" and "How Great Thou Art" were sung by Paul Knautz, accompanied by Mrs. Knautz at the organ.
Pallbearers were Edwin Alexander and William Blakeney of La Grande, and Ernest Adams, Theodore Keefer, John Waelty and Ronald Scoubes of Elgin.
