"He enlisted in the Bartow Rebels as a Private on April 24, 1862, and was appointed to Fifth Sergeant on March 8, 1863. Confederate widow's pension records indicate he was paroled at Appoxmattox Court House, Virginia, with the rank of Third Lieutenant. He was permanently blinded prior to parole; date and place unknown.
