Deputy David Castillo died as a result of a traffic accident on April 11, 1991. Castillo was on patrol, responding to assist another deputy who was attempting to serve a warrant. Castillo lost control of his patrol vehicle, on FM 1604, between Nelson and Pearsall roads, striking a tree. The patrol vehicle burst into flames. Castillo was pinned in his vehicle and perished in the fire. Castillo, 31, a Victoria native and had worked for the Sheriffs Office for eight years, with the last four years in the patrol division. Castillo was All-State Middle Linebacker for Victoria High School in 1979 and attended Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas. Survivors included a daughter of San Antonio, Parents; Jesse V. & Candida Castillo; brothers, Manuel, Ernest, Julian & Richard Castillo; sisters, Lupe Tamayo, Janie Gonzalez, Alice Castillo & Michele Castillo. Burial was in Victoria, Texas.
