Phyllis was raised in the Vulcan community in Iron County. In 1959 she married Ray Mertell. They made their home in St. Louis where she was employed by Mercantile Bank. Upon their retirement they moved to Farmington in 1989. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington. Phyllis was a dedicated volunteer at Presbyterian Manor for a number of years. Collecting bears, cooking and gardening were some of her favorite activities. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her brother Oscar “Dano” (Faye) Adams of St. Louis; many nieces, nephews, extended family and a special friend, Earl Wood.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Thursday, September 15, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning beginning at 7 a.m. followed by the funeral service in the Cozean Chapel beginning at 9:30 a.m. with Dr. Bill Miller officiating. An interment service will be held at 12:45 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with Dr. O. M. Daves officiating.
