British Broadcaster and Radio Personality. His career spanned 40 years and his catchphrases "Greetings, pop pickers" and "Not'arf" made him a household name. He acquired the nickname "Fluff" from fellow DJs because of his favourite fluffy jumper which made him look like a sheep. He began his career as a summer relief disc jockey on Radio Luxembourg in the 1960's and then moved to the BBC Light Programme and Radio 1FM and was also one of the original hosts of the popular music programme 'Top of The Pops' and regular panellist on 'Juke Box Jury'. He became the presenter of the 'Records Around Five Show',then 'Pick of the Pops' from 1961 to 1972. ‘Quiz Kid',' The Rock Show' and the daily afternoon slot at BBC Radio 1 from 1973 until 1978. He then left the BBC to work for Capital Radio, from 1979 to 1988; reviving some of his classic shows. After various moves in broadcasting and returning to the BBC he was awarded the MBE in 1998 and retired in 2000 because of the progressive arthritis in his hands; in the same year he received a Lifetime Achievement award at the Sony Radio Academy Awards.
