Verda Lowe Wahlquist

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on a beautiful Sunday morning, February 3, 2002, in the presence of her loving family.

She was born August 9, 1905, in Willard, Utah to Joseph Richard and Dora Hubbard Lowe. Verda married Henry T. Wahlquist on June 14, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Henry preceded her in death on February 25, 1977.

Verda attended Willard Elementary School, Box Elder High School and the Smithsonian Business College. She was an executive secretary for ZCMI until her marriage. Verda was very active in her church and held many callings including Relief Society president and teacher, member of the Stake Relief Society presidency, Primary and MIA teacher. Verda was also involved in local and state PTA for over 12 years. She was the first PTA President at Hillcrest High School (1962). In 1978 she became site manager of the Midvale Senior Citizens Center and served until 1985.

Verda was inducted into the Midvale Hall of Honors in 1993. Verda possessed many talents, including poetry, cooking, sewing, crocheting, needlepoint and her famous hand-dipped chocolates. She was a founding member of the Forever Young Club and the Midvale Dancing Club, and a member of the Midvale Ladies Community Club.

More than all of her accomplishments, Verda was an example of how we should all live our lives and enjoy life to the fullest. We will be forever touched by her love and compassion and she will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Jones; granddaughters Shauna (Tony) Huston and Tami (Jeff) Brady; great-grandsons Mitchell, Riley and Brady; sister June Tucker. Preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at St. Joseph Villa for their excellent care, love and friendship to Verda and her family.
