Betty Jean Berkley Dotson, age 79 of Winchester, passed away at her home September 1, 2016. A native of Blountville/Sullivan County, TN, she was a 1955 graduate of Blountville High School. She was awarded a scholarship and continued her education at East Tennessee State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in teaching. Following college she began her teaching career, spending the early years in Georgia and later in Chattanooga, where she met her husband, Luther, at the church she attended. Betty and Luther retired in 1996 and made their home in Franklin County. Mrs. Dotson was a member of the Winchester First Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday school class and worked in the nursery for many years. She was an avid University of Tennessee football fan and loved to create things with her amazing sewing talent, having made all the draperies in her home. Mrs. Dotson is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Dotson; her mother, Leona Akins Berkley and her father, Clarence Radford Berkley; a brother, Donald “Donnie” Berkley. She is survived by her sisters, Irma Handy and Nancy Depew, both of Blountville, TN, Blanch Moss of High Point, NC. and Mary Lou Gaddis of Chattanooga, TN; brothers, Charles Radford Berkley and Billie Berkley, both of Bristol, TN and Walter Berkley, of Kingsport, TN. The family will receive friends at Watson-North Funeral Home Sunday September 4, 2016 from 11-2 p.m. The funeral service will follow in the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home. Mrs. Dotson will be laid to rest at Watson-North Memorial Park alongside her husband, Luther. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. On-line condolences may be sent to www.watsonnorth.com.
