It seems that I'm related to everyone in Adair County, Kentucky. And I am related to Edna and to her first husband, Archie. However, the more important relationship to my family is that she was my mother's best friend. Edna was born on Christmas Day 1925. The following Easter, my mother was born. They always thought it was special that they were holiday babies, but Edna's birthday was on Christmas every year, while Mom did not get to celebrate her birthday on Easter Sunday again until 1999.

I know from getting to spend time with them that mostly they just enjoyed each other's company. They both believed in Jesus and planned to meet one another in heaven. But they also loved to laugh. The last time we went to visit Edna was in October 2003. If I'd known it would be the last time, we'd have stayed longer.

Mom had a stroke on the last Friday of 2005. My family knew to call Edna to let her know, but she called Mom's and left a couple of messages on the answering machine asking about how Mom was doing. Since I was at the hospital, I didn't get those messages until after Mom died. I didn't ever have the heart to delete them. I know that may sound strange, but it was because the messages were left while Mom was still living.

Little did I know that Edna would join Mom that December. I listen to the recordings occasionally. It's just good to hear her voice.

This memorial was originally created by Roger Gleitz. I appreciate it being transferred to me on February 7, 2008 so I could personalize it. If any of Edna's children ever visit and you would like any changes made, please let me know. Mom and I loved your mom dearly.

December 2008 - I just found the burial location of the friend who lived with Edna and Mom in Louisville in 1945. It was their good friend, Carrie Rooks.

Many thanks to Caroline for sponsoring Mom's best friend's memorial. Edna was very special to Mom. We talked on the phone many times after Mom died so she became very precious to me as well.
