John Dawdy was the son of Howell and Phebe Dawdy. He moved with his family to Bedford, Tennessee and is found there until 1839 on census and tax records. He married Mary (Polly) Morse or Moss in Knox Co., Tennessee on Sep. 28, 1797. They are the parents of Betsy, Nancy Dunham, Mary "Polly"Bradley, Phebe Jones, John Wesley, Daniel, Benjamin, Howell M., Margaret Craig, and Matilda. Many of their descendants moved to Arkansas. The gravesites of John and Mary are unknown, but it is believed that they are buried in Bedford Co., Tennessee or in the Dawdy Cemetery with John's parents.
