From NY Genweb Archives, Genesee County, Hillside Cemetery---The gravestone of Ira and many other people buried in this cemetery were removed in 1897 when Hillside Cemetery was started. Other graves were placed in the areas where these gravestones were removed.

Ira may be named for Levi Goodenhough and Ira Allen of the Green Mountain Boys in the Revolutionary War. He is believed to be a son of Caleb Carpenter and his second wife Lucy Carpenter, married April 28, 1768 at Rehoboth (or Attleboro), Bristol County, Massachusetts. Caleb's first wife Hannah, also with the last name Carpenter, married in 1763. I would guess the wives were sisters or possibly cousins of Caleb.
