Julia B. Gonzales, 54, a resident of Silver City entered eternal life Sunday Feb. 6 after a short battle of cancer. The prayer vigil will be held this evening at 7 at Baca's Funeral Chapels with Deacon Bill Holguin leading in recitation of the rosary. The funeral lituary will be celebrate Thursday at 10 in the morning at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with Father Rod Nichols officiating. Concluding services and burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery. She was born June 19, 1945 to Santos and Antonia Borunda and was raised in Fierro. She graduated from Cobre High School in 1964. On April 8, 1967 she married Steve A. Gonzales and they moved to Silver City to start their lives together. She was employed by Gila Regional Medical Center for 22 years. Her favorite pastime was spending time with kids and grandkids. She survived by her daughter Annette Gonzales and son-in-law Lloyd Montoya of Silver City; two sons Stevie Gonzales of Tucson, Ariz., and Adam Gonzales of Las Cruces; two granddaughters Nichole and Catelyn Montoya of Silver City; her father Santos Borunda of Bayard; one sister Lupe Borunda of Bayard; her brothers Joe Borunda and his wife Rebecca and family and Freddy Borunda and his wife Teresa and family of San Manuel, Ariz.; her uncle Santiago Borunda of Fierro; her aunt and uncle Lupe and Tommy Sedillos of Bayard; her mother-in-law and brother-in-law Emma and David Gonzales of Las Cruces; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Domingo and Elizabeth Gonzales of Washington; and her special cousins Susie Murillo, Art Sierra, Isabelle Salas, Teresa Flores, Pauline Dempster, and Jimmy, Beto, Henry Borunda. She is also survived by her close friends Larry and Lydia Montes, Cecilio and Belinda Jauriqui, and Clara Holguin and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother David Borunda in 1973; a grandmother Manuela Sanchez in 1979; her husband Steve Gonzales in 1988; and her mother Antonia Borunda in 1997. Entrusted to the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.
