He attended elementary school in Waitsfield, VT and graduated from Bradford Academy.
He enlisted in the Navy Seabees, shortly after graduation and served during World War II, seeing action in both the South Pacific and in Europe. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in January, 1946.
Survivors include his children; Douglas Allen of East Montpelier, VT; Stephanie Rowe of Saint Johnsbury, VT; and Jeanne Gallerani of Danville, VT. He is also survived by six grandchildren; one great grandchild.
He is predeceased by his parents; his sister, Madalene; his first wife Miriam in 1983; his second wife Natalie in Oct 2014.
