He graduated from Anson Academy, North Anson Maine and received a Diploma in Business Administration from Skowhegan Commercial School, Skowhegan Maine.
He joined the Army and was Honorably discharged after which he chose to settle in California. Al worked for Crown Zellerbach for about nine years while studying to become a Real Estate Agent. He had a successful career in real estate from 1961 until his retirement in 2008.
After retirement he enjoyed crossword puzzles, dancing, music and karaoke. He continued to keep in touch with his many out of state friends and family, and assisted older clients with their real estate needs. Al was a fellow who never met a stranger.
He had four children, Alton O. Whiting Jr., Norman Davis Whiting, Roger Allen Whiting, and Judy Whiting Royce. These children blessed him with 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Seth O. Whiting, his mother Myrtle Willey Whiting and 2 sons Alton Jr., and Norman.
A private family memorial will be held in North Anson, Maine where internment will take place.
As there will be no local services, the family asks in lieu of Flowers, a donation to the Disabled American Vets or Cancer Research in his memory would be appreciated.
