Jimmy “Alabama” W. Hendrix, age 84, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was born in Nauvoo, AL to Louis and Rosa (Shading) Hendrix on September 9, 1931.

He was an avid sports fan and was a huge fan of I.U. football and basketball as well as Indianapolis Colts football. He was known to grow enormous cabbages in his garden as well as many other vegetables. He was a Canner at Stokely-Van Camp for many years until his retirement. He loved spending time with his family and will be sorely missed.

He married the former Charlotte Basham on January 28, 1984 in Indianapolis and she survives him along with his sons, J.W. Hendrix, Kenneth (Stacy) Hendrix, Johnny Ray (Cindy) Holt, James (Angie) Holt and Russell (Kathy) Cassady all of Indianapolis; daughter, Debra Craig of Indianapolis; brother, Blanton Hendrix of Nauvoo, AL; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with the Rev. Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the funeral home.
