BIRTH RECORD: Hubbardston, Worcester Co., MA: CLARK, Luther, s. John Jr. and Jerusha, March 18, 1771. At Hopkinton.

DEATH RECORD: Rutland, Worcester Co., MA

Luther Clark, died May 3, 1855, age 84 years, 1 month, 14 days. Place of Death Rutland, MA. Cause of Death Typhoid Fever. Male, Widowed, Farmer. Place of Birth Hubbardston, MA. Name of Parents John and Jerusha Clark.

NOTE: Luther's death record was also registered in the town of Leominster, MA. In that record it says he died in Hubbardston. Since there is no record of his death in Hubbardston, the Rutland death record must be the more accurate of the two. This makes sense since he was a resident of Rutland and his wife also died there a few years earlier.

LUTHER CLARK / DIED / May 3, 1855. / AE. 84.

Remember: man, as you pass by,
As you are now, so once was I:
As I am now so you must be:
Prepare for death and follow me.

I Luther Clark of Rutland, in the County Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, being of sound and disposing mind do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following, to wit:
First, I order my Executor herein after named, to pay from the proceeds of my estate all my just debts, funeral charges, and expenses of the settlement of my estate.
Second, I give and bequeath to my grandchildren Andrew Clark, son of Ira Clark deceased, two hundred dollars, to Lois Clark, daughter of the said Ira, ninety dollars, to Calista Clark, eighty dollars and Abigail Clark one hundred dollars daughter of the said Ira, and to the two children of my deceased granddaughter Rebecca Graves fifty dollars each, to my daughter Parmelia Johnson, wife of Willard Johnson, four hundred dollars to my daughter Sally Powers, wife of Gilman Powers, five dollars, to my granddaughter Arathusa Powers, daughter of the said Gilman, fifty dollars, and to my son Luther R. Clark one hundred dollars, all the said legacies to be paid by my Executor in one year after my decease.
Third, I give and bequeath to Elisa Clark, wife of my son Adolphus Clark the use and income of four hundred dollars to be invested in Real Estate by my said Executor, and held for the benefit of the said Adolphus and wife during the lifetime, either, and after the decease of both to descend to their heirs.
Fourth, for the purpose of raising funds for the payment of said debts charges and Legacies I hereby authorize and empower my said Executor to sell either at private or public sale every part of my real estate, and pass deeds to convey the same and also all my personal estates, and if after the payment of all my debts, the charges, expenses, and Legacies aforesaid, there should still be a balance left in the hands of my Executor, I give and bequeath said balance or remainder to my children and grandchildren above mentioned to be divided among them in proportion to their respective Legacies aforesaid, but if the said funds should be insufficient to pay said Legacies, then the same shall be part them in proportion to said Legacies, and I make no further provision in this Will for the children of my sons William Clark and Anson Clark as I have already advanced to them all that I intend as their share of my estate.
Finally, I hereby appoint and constitute my son Luther R. Clark of Leominster, sole Executor of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other and former wills by me made, and declaring this and this only to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I hereto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of April in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty Five. Signed, sealed, published, pronounced, and declared by the said Luther Clark to be his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers who in his presence and at his request and in presence of each other hereunto set our hands as witnesses.
