Porter Aderholt, Jr., 89, of Pinson, Alabama, died on August 12, 2016, eight days before his 90th birthday. He was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church and a former member of Hilldale Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Louise (Parker) Aderholt; brother, Charles E. Aderholt; sister, Ruby (Aderholt) Blake, and parents, Porter Aderholt, Sr. and Ida (Warren) Aderholt. He is survived by his son, two daughters, granddaughter, and two great-granddaughters. After graduating from Jefferson County High School in May of 1944, he took two weeks off and joined the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II, experiencing many notable battles including Iwo Jima. He received the following U.S. Navy awards: World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal with Two Stars, American Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in June 1946 as a Machinist's Mate Third Class. Soon after his Navy discharge, he began college at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University), majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He was a member of Pi Tau Sigma International Mechanical Engineering Honor Society. He married Mildred Louise Parker in December of 1947 and graduated in 1949. After graduation, he served two years active duty in Germany in the U.S. Army and was discharged in April 1952. He continued his military career by serving in the Active U.S. Army Reserves, obtained the rank of Colonel and retired in March 1977. After his Army discharge in 1952, he began working for Southern Natural Gas. He worked his way up to the office of Senior Vice President and after his fifth attempt he retired in December of 1989.
