Carl Brittian, eldest son of Richard B. and Alverda Clay, was born near Cisne, Sept. 21, 1876. He grew to manhood and has spent his life in the vicinity of his birth.

His life work has been principally that of a farmer and stockman, however for several years he conducted a retail feed store in Cisne and more recently has been engaged in the used furniture business.

In October, 1915 he put an electric light plant in operation and gave the village of Cisne its first electric service.

He was united in marriage with Nellie Franklin, Dec. 2, 1899. Two daughters were born to this union.

For several months he has been afflicted with a critical heart ailment and following a severe attack, he entered into rest on January 20, 1945, age 68 years and four months.

He is survived by his faithful companion; two daughters, Gertrude Schultz and Wanda Simmons; two brothers, S. A. and Walter; two sisters, Ora Baker and Opal Berg; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from the Cisne Christian church with interment in the Cisne Cemetery.
