William Lee “Bill” Knisley, 75, of Donnellson, passed away at 6:52 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born April 9, 1941 at Niota, Illinois the son of Chester and Thelma (Gerhardt) Knisley.

On February 17, 1963 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson he married Joann Schiller.

Survivors include his wife Joann, two daughters: Dawn (Kyle) Van Ausdall of Donnellson, Lea Ann Wenger of Donnellson and her friend Kevin Rink. One son Billy Knisley of Donnellson. Six grandchildren: Eric (Jenni) Van Ausdall, Ryan (Miranda) Van Ausdall, Ethan Knisley, Chris (fiancé Karina Sonalio) Wenger, Kara Knisley and Sara Wenger. Three great-grandchildren: Gage, Grahm and Tatum Van Ausdall. Also surviving is one brother Henry (Betty) Knisley of Union City, Tennessee and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert and two brothers in infancy.

Bill was a 1959 graduate of Nauvoo High School. He was a member of St Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson, served as Vice President of the Lee County Farm Bureau, was a member of the Three Rivers Tractor Club, served as Charleston Township Trustee.

Bill retired from Burrows and Cessford Quarries.

He enjoyed farming and his cows. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching his great grandchildren play baseball.

Friends may call after noon on Tuesday at the Schmitz Funeral Home in Donnellson where the family will meet with friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Donnellson with Pastor Cathie Courtois officiating. Burial will be in the Evangelical Cemetery in Donnellson.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that friends give stepping stones or memorials to the Donnellson Ball Association, Donnellson Fire and Rescue or St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
