David married Clarissa B. Clark on November 14, 1854 in Sauk County, Wisconsin. They had four children, only one of whom, Dwight, survived childhood, and he also died young.

David served as an assistant surgeon in the 50th Wisconsin Infantry in the Civil War.

David died in Howard, New York and was buried at this cemetery. (His death in Howard, New York is confirmed by a statement by his wife in his probate record.) His wife arranged a memorial stone for him in their home town at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin. At my request, Karl Berna uploaded a photo of the memorial stone from Wisconsin to this memorial page so that viewers could see the information. A request has been made for a photo of his stone at this Mount Pleasant cemetery in New York.
