This partial newspaper obituary for John's son Arthur, was given to Annette O'Connor by her brother Arthur, in 2008. There is no date for the obituary, or newspaper name or location. It does document a bit about John's life, and the fact his family moved from Waterford County, Ireland to Liverpool, England in 1905:

Death of Priest, son of Causeway man

Father Arthur O'Connor who died in Bournemouth (Hampshire, England) on November 6, was born in Waterford (County Waterford, Ireland) in 1900. His father, John O'Connor of Drumnacurra, Causeway (County Kerry, Ireland), was a Customs official in Waterford. In 1905, the family moved to Liverpool.....

From a letter written to Thomas Francis O'Connor by Mary "May" O'Keefe (1876- 1972) in May of 1965. Mary O'Keefe was a daughter of Bartholomew and Alice Quinn O'Keefe, his aunt and sister to his mother:

The following are extracts from two of her letters (to Thomas Francis O’Connor) -

Jan. 13, ’64. Your father and mother (John O’Connor and Bridget O’Keefe) met in Waterford in 1897, the year of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Your mother had been to Bath for the celebrations on the invitation of my two aunts who were employed there, and I imagine in the vain hope of securing a job there. On her arrival in Waterford on the return journey she went for breakfast to a hotel on the Quay. Your father was staying there and so they met at breakfast. He followed up the acquaintance, but they were not married until June 1899, your mother having taken up two jobs in the meantime - one in Dundalk and one in Mullingar - neither of which was a success. We had left Edenderry many years before - when I was five - and we never returned there or visited Dublin.

Aug. 6, ’64 … reply to some questions raised in your January letter.

1. My use of the word “hotel” as the meeting place of your father and mother was misleading. Some better class pubs took in boarders and also supplied plain(?) meals for travelers and others at moderate charges and it was to such a one that your mother went for breakfast after getting off the boat and by chance met your father (who was staying there) for the first time. I gather he had been in the Customs for some years later, but in any case, coming from Bath the most direct route would be Bristol-Waterford.

2. Your mother served as an assistant in a stationary and fancy goods shop, books papers etc. om Dundalk and later in a similar business in Mullingar, and important town in the Midlands - county Westmeath.

Notes by my father, John O’Connor (from Thomas Francis O'Connor):

I have thought that in a few years when I have faded away like the stars of the morning losing their light in the glorious sun, you may like to know more about your relations on the father’s side and firstly a little more about myself.

1882. At 15 years of age I was appointed assistant teacher in Drumnacurra school for a 5 year term and was fortunate (as the salary was small) to have a chance at six prizes offered under the Reid bequest scheme at my exams at the end of 3rd and 5th years (Kerry Assistant teachers only).
In 1886 July exam I won first prize L20.
In 1888 July exam I won first prize L25.
In September ’88 I went to Listowel Intermediate School St. Michael’s for 2 years at Classics and Science to qualify for B.A. degree but got tired of study and prepared for Customs or Excise exams where I finally stuck and finished up my career.
