Albion: Mary Jane Shaner, age 96, passed away on July 2, 2016 at Medina Memorial Hospital. She was born on May 16, 1920 in Johnstown, PA to the late Harvey and Gertrude Costlow.
Mary Jane was born and raised in the state of Pennsylvania. She would meet her future husband Melvin there and spend 63 loving years together until his passing in 2004. Mary Jane and Melvin moved to Ocoee, FL in 1979 and Mary Jane stayed there after Melvin’s passing until 2010. She would then move to Albion in 2010 and remain in the area until her passing. In her spare time she enjoyed making crafts, travelling, and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Melvin in 2004, grandson Richard Peoples, four brothers and four sisters.
Mary Jane is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Richard) Peoples of Ocoee, FL, Barbara (Doug) Morey of Albion, NY, Judith (Bruce) Liddle of Schoharie, NY, sons, Melvin (Elizabeth) Shaner of Shawboro, NC, Alvin (Anita) Shaner of North Huntington, PA, sister, Nancy Wallace, brothers, Dan (Annie) Costlow, Jim (Virginia) Costlow, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There are no prior calling hours. Mary Jane’s memorial service will be held at the Christopher Mitchell Funeral Home, Inc. 21 West Ave. Albion, NY at a date and time that will be announced in the coming week.
