Jesse J. Abbott, 87, of Toledo, formerly of Sullivan, died 1:30 a.m. Friday (Dec 22, 1978) in St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday in McMullin funeral Home, Sulivan, with visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in French Cemetery, rural Allenville.

Mr. Abbot was born in Missouri, son of James and Martha A. Abbott. He was a veteran of World War I and a retired railroader. He was a member of the Toledo Baptist Church and Old-Time Fiddlers Association. He married Eva Clayton in 1915. She died in 1938. He married Veta Marie Maxedon in 1939.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Van d. and Lloyd G., both of Mattoon;p Noble G. and Doyle D., both of Montrose;p Ivan J. of Sullivan; Ted of Bethany; Jessie James Jr. at home; daughters, Mrs. Leon (Beatrice) Winchester, Mrs. John (Marge) Moran, Mrs. Alva (Bernice) Moran and Mrs. Phil (Norma) Sheets, all of Sullivan; Mrs. Joseph (Lois) Bueker of Montrose;p adopted children, James Eugene Abbott, Paul D. Abbott and Leta Fern, all at home brother, Ethly Abbott of Effingham; 28 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren.
